Spring Design Inspiration + Southern Living Announcement!

Well, every time I think it’s about to start warming up, we have another chilly day! Nevertheless, it does seem that spring weather is finally here…and not a moment too soon!

As the days grow longer and the warmer air moves in, I find that there’s a lightness to the season that carries through into our projects. Whether it’s being drawn to spring-like colors or the tactile interest of linens and lighter sheers, this season feels like a time of renewal.

I’ve been traveling a bit lately and I’m excited to tell you (finally!) about my trips to Nashville for a special project that will be a wonderful look behind the scenes for how we design. Stay tuned until the end of this post to hear more about it! A few weeks ago I was honored to speak at a fabulous design event in Mexico hosted by Cosentino, the makers of Silestone and Dekton, two surfaces we love for countertops. At the C. Next event we explored design ideas and shared our love for design in an idyllic setting, perfect for gathering inspiration and sparking creativity. I came back refreshed and excited to meld these new ideas with our current projects as well as new ones.

In the spirit of the spring refresh, I wanted to share some design and decor inspiration that will hopefully bring a sense of lightness and renewal to your home and your wellbeing.

Light Linens + Natural Textiles

With the warmer weather and light-filled days, we love swapping out heavy, cozy knits for lighter weight woven linen and cotton throws. This simple change welcomes the new season and feels fresh and light.

Essential Oils

If you’ve visited our shop, Domain, you have most likely seen (and smelled!) our natural stone Vitruvi diffuser humming with a light essential oil filling the space. Some of our favorites scents for spring include bergamot, lemongrass, and peppermint because they feel fresh and energizing.

Greenery, Plants + Flowers

Of course spring is the perfect time to bring greenery into your home. Plants are one of our favorite features in our design projects and they are truly a year-round staple for us, but spring is the time for enjoying all that nature has to offer. If you don’t have a green thumb, fresh cut greens or flowers can renew and refresh any space, bringing a connection to nature and lightening your mood.

De-clutter and Clean Out

Easier said than done, right? For us, a shift in seasons is the perfect time to de-clutter and organize. One of our favorite seasonal rituals is to look at clothing and décor that we did not reach for in the previous winter season. If that item no longer aligns with your style or your needs, consider whether there are ways to bring it new life and if not, how you might help it be used by others through a donation. If an item no longer serves its primary function due to stains or damage, see if there are other ways to use the materials. I like to cut up stained clothing and use the clean areas of the fabric as make-up remover pads or cleaning cloths. Do you have sad, flat throw pillows with polyester inserts? A new Responsibly Sourced Down (RDS) pillow insert can give your pillow cover new life and look even better than before. But don’t toss the old insert just yet, they’re great for dog beds! Removing excess clutter and unnecessary items from a space can help it (and you) feel lighter and renewed.

We would love to hear how you love to refresh spaces in your home! If you’re looking for even more inspiration, be sure to check out our Domain Spring Cleaning collection, filled with items we love for a fresh spring clean.

Head over to our Instagram to see a behind-the-scenes look into all the exciting projects we have been working on! I’m so very honored and excited to tell you that we’re designing the Southern Living Idea House this year! (And yes, I mean the whole house!) It’s been so hard not to talk about it through all these months of planning but I can finally start showing you all of the details and ideas were bringing to this fabulous project. I hope you’ll check it out either in person this summer or in the September issue of Southern Living and stay tuned as we show you sneak peeks behind the design! We’ve partnered with some very special friends to inspire you, guide you and cast a new light on living well in your own home. Be sure to follow along @laurahodgesstudio so you don’t miss anything!
