When we're designing new spaces for our clients, we always look for opportunities to make an impact not only with the new space, but also within the community and the environment. New construction and renovations have a major impact on the environment so we always do our best to waste as little as possible and donate or recycle unwanted building materials and furnishings. Last week we were excited to complete a beautiful office design project and help to update the interior spaces of a local non-profit at the same time.
Mud Rooms can be a great space for shoes, coats and extra storage but what if yours is falling short of sparking joy? And what if you don't have room for one at all? Never fear, you're in the right place to find the best way to make your space super efficient.

Are you hosting a Memorial Day party this weekend? Here are some quick tips to get you ready to celebrate!
We just returned from a whirlwind 7 day trip to Cuba and I'm so excited to share it with you!
Cuba can definitely seem daunting when you see how our politics have made it so complicated to travel. From visas and licenses to itineraries and documentation, this was one of the most unique trips we've taken. Luckily for me, Tim was an amazing travel planner and put together a fabulous itinerary for us. It's a lot to review all at once so we'll break it down over the next few weeks and soon you'll know everything that we know about this fabulous country.
First, the red tape...
1. Passport: You need a passport that expires at least 6 months after your arrival.
2. Visa: You'll need to get a Visa to travel to Cuba and you can do this at the airport with your airline. We paid a bit extra to do it ahead of time just in case we were running short on time. Here's where we bought ours.
3. Travel License: There are 12 categories under which you can travel to Cuba. Click here for the list, we traveled under Support for the Cuban Peoplemeaning that we were there to interact with Cubans and exchange cultural ideas. This is the license that is the most simple to travel under but you do need to document what you plan to do each day. There's not really anything you need to do for the license but you'll need to tell the airline and use this as your reason for any customs paperwork when you enter and leave the country.
4. Health Insurance: You are required to have non-US health insurance which is included in the cost of your airline ticket. They suggest that you keep your boarding pass with you at all times as proof of insurance.
We kept our boarding passes with us along with copies of our passports and Visas. We kept the originals of our passports and Visas in a safe at our Airbnb.
Speaking of Airbnb, this was one of the best parts of our trip. Our Airbnb home was called Casa de Vera in the Vedado neighborhood which was away from the hustle and bustle but close to everything we needed. Our host and his family were very helpful for the entire trip and we loved the home as well. It was even featured in Inside Out, a Cayman Island luxury home magazine. The soaring ceilings, eclectic mix of furniture styles and art deco architectural details were simply stunning.
Stay tuned to hear more about our trip soon!

When you spend this much time at work, why is it any less welcoming than your home? I'll tell you why... we have this idea of an office and it should be all of these things: professional, neutral and focused on work. Well, that doesn't sound like a very appealing place to spend your whole day. I'd prefer these words: welcoming, inspiring and supportive. Here are 3 quick ways you can make your work space better right now.
When we started looking for an Assistant Designer for the Studio and a Boutique Manager for DOMAIN, we had the highest hopes of finding a unicorn... Someone who was personable, artistic, optimistic, creative, smart, organized, diligent and outgoing enough to manage our shop but also able to multi-task and work with us on design projects. And, maybe most importantly, had a great sense of humor with the ability to find the good in almost any situation. We nicknamed this person our unicorn since it seemed that having all of these traits in one person was perhaps a little too aspirational.
How can you possibly find time for everything you want to do? The answer, of course, is balance. Finding time for all of the things you have to do plus all of the things you want to do is a delicate balance, and having a functional (and beautiful) home supports that balance. Everything you do all day is that much easier when your starting and ending point is intentionally customized to your lifestyle. We love to create moments for spontaneous joy, from treasured photos to fresh flowers, so that your home can support you and make that balancing act just a little easier.
Have you ever considered hiring an interior designer but then thought... What if I hate her ideas? How will she know what I like? How long will the project take? Can she do all of the purchasing and manage the project for me? Well, we're taking you behind the scenes to answer the questions you didn't even know you had about what it's really like to work with an interior designer.
Don't you love family photo gallery walls? "Of course", you say, "but they're always much easier said than done!" Well, today I'm sharing 3 of my top tips for choosing the best photos so it's as painless as possible.
