As you can imagine, I was very excited for the opportunity to see how our own mattress was handcrafted by the talented team at Stearns & Foster® in their Hagerstown factory. When so few things are crafted by hand (and even fewer in this country), it’s quite the experience to watch. Along the way, I asked loads of questions about the mattresses and, of course, about their sustainable practices … here are a few of the highlights:

Bedrooms are one of my favorite spaces to design because they truly blend both form and function. A bedroom should be a beautiful retreat that encourages rest and renewal, so every detail matters. Sleep is such an intimate and personal experience… whether you prefer to be warm or cool, softly cradled or firmly supported, if you need a cocoon-like room with black out shades or to wake up with the sun. All of these specifics are part of the design planning, but underneath it all must be a mattress that offers quality, comfort and longevity.
