One of our favorite aspects of styling spaces for photoshoots and install days would have to be florals – we love incorporating fresh flowers and cuttings into our design projects. They just have a way of making the space feel a bit more personable, light, and like “home”. Keep reading for a little Q+A with Laura on all things florals…

We recently had the pleasure of chatting with our friends over at Studio McGee as part of their Make Life Beautiful series, where they highlight interior designers across the globe. We loved what was shared with the Studio McGee community so much, that we wanted to share a bit of it on our blog as well!

We are so excited to share a closer look at our space and everything that went into it, from the collaboration that occurred to bring this room to life, to the local makers and vendors that are featured in this space.

If you follow us on Instagram then you’ll know that we’re participating in the House Beautiful Whole Home Show House in Fredericksburg, Texas this coming fall. Our room combines the elements of a home office space and gym, centered around mindfulness, biophilic design and wellness. During our research into how we can integrate biophilic design into our space, we came across Matt Morley, an expert in biophilic design and founder of Biofilico.

We love designing bathrooms. It's a space can that be beautiful, functional and, at the same time, a great escape from the world. Where else can you lounge in a gorgeous deep soaking tub, indulge in an at-home spa treatment or spend precious time just relaxing and contemplating life... away from the day-to-day that waits for you outside the door. A bathroom can be a retreat, even if it's small and even if it's simply and economically designed.

It's finally time to show you our finished design plan for our virtual One Room Challenge! If you've been keeping up with our weekly posts and IG stories, you know that we've been "virtually" designing a room for none other than Oprah as part of a bi-annual design event called the One Room Challenge. Over the past 5 weeks we've walked you through our design process from the initial space planning and design inspiration through to sourcing furnishings at High Point Market and now we're ready to give you the big reveal!

We love sharing our design ideas with you so we're so excited to introduce you to our very own Design Chats, an Instagram-based IGTV series that will be launching this week! On Design Chats we'll be giving you quick tips, inspiration, and clever ideas to update and refresh your space. We'll share ideas from Domain, the Studio, project sites and even while we're out sourcing and shopping for projects. Since we're all spending quite a bit more time at home these days, now is the perfect time to launch this series that stems from common questions we receive from our clients, customers, and friends. Design Chats is for you so we welcome you to send us your design questions — we may just feature your question in one of our future videos!

We love finding great sustainable brands for our design projects and recently we got to know bedding brand Under the Canopy when they chatted with us about our design studio and projects for their blog. They had some great questions so I wanted to share our conversation with you! Also, this week we virtually visited High Point Furniture Market to shop for Week 4 of the One Room Challenge!

We've been having lovely weather on the east coast this fall (so far!) and we're excited to celebrate the changing season with a beautiful new window display at Domain! We'll be working with a local florist to bring you some unique ideas for fall florals and seasonal decor updates. In the meantime, we're sharing our inspiration boards for the new windows and delving a little deeper into our design process for Week 3 of the One Room Challenge.

We just installed one of our favorite projects with beautiful views on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and we're feeling inspired to bring all that nature into our One Room Challenge!

We all have that one room that seems to always be such a challenge to tackle... you know the one, I can see that you're thinking about it right now! Well, we're excited to be participating in the One Room Challenge this fall, a widely anticipated biannual event that takes place every April and October. Each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge, as Featured Designers, and transform a space. This year, for a new take on the challenge, all of the room designs will be virtual! Check in with us every Wednesday on Instagram and Facebook, as well as our newsletter and blog, as we document our process while sharing our sources and professional advice!

In difficult times like these, it's easy to get caught up in the daily challenges we're experiencing. I think this is the best time to do something that really makes you feel optimistic and hopeful. Something that helps you see the bigger picture and focus on what truly brings you joy.

I know... everything you read and everything you hear right now is all focused on one thing and it's hard to think about anything else. Being at home, away from those daily connections with friends and family, can take a toll on us after a while. I'm so thankful that's it's almost spring, with longer hours of daylight, warmer weather and so many beautiful flowers and trees beginning to blossom. Here are some ideas to lift your spirits and bring all of that spring beauty into your home.

5 Easy Ways to Decorate More Sustainably…

If you follow us on Instagram (and I hope that you do!) then you might have already heard our big news: we were named a Next Wave Designer in House Beautiful! I've read House Beautiful for as long as I've loved design (forever) so being on the pages of this gorgeous magazine is a dream come true and I'm so honored. I hope you'll check out the December Holiday issue to see our feature and read about Domain too. 

There are a few places that I never get tired of visiting and Paris is one of my favorites. From baguettes and wine to the romantic architecture and amazing art, this city always has something new to discover. On this trip we decided to skip the tourist destinations and just take these few days to relax and wander this gorgeous city. And by "relax" of course I mean spend hours perusing the flea markets and tiny streets of design shops, taking a day trip to Brussels where there are more chocolate shops than people and finding design inspiration around every corner. Whether it was the fabulous architecture, a mix of historical buildings and modern design, or simply the way a small cafe was so thoughtfully considered, this is the city of great design. 

When we're designing new spaces for our clients, we always look for opportunities to make an impact not only with the new space, but also within the community and the environment. New construction and renovations have a major impact on the environment so we always do our best to waste as little as possible and donate or recycle unwanted building materials and furnishings. Last week we were excited to complete a beautiful office design project and help to update the interior spaces of a local non-profit at the same time.

I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since we opened Domain! Along the way we’ve met and befriended the most wonderful artists and makers whose amazing pieces we’re honored to carry... and we’ve met you, our favorite part of having a shop. We definitely have the best customers and clients! So thank you for coming on this journey with us, we’ve loved every minute and we’re looking forward to more to come!
